Betty’s Basement

Betty’s Basement was established when a parishioner, Betty Bradley, recognized a need in our community. Since then, the shop has thrived by selling very reasonably priced clothing and home goods all donated by our members and neighbors. Children are always drawn to our toys and books. At times of crisis families have been invited to come in and to take whatever they might need.

We have a dedicated all-volunteer staff that maintains the shop by managing the constantly changing inventory and welcoming patrons during shop hours.

  • Saturday 9:00 am to Noon

Proceeds from the sales are used to assist the church’s ministries.

Fish Food Collection

Holy Cross maintains a food collection area for the North Plainfield FISH, which is an emergency grocery delivery service for North Plainfield residents. Canned and packaged goods can be donated. The food is taken regularly to St. Luke’s Church in North Plainfield where it is given to the needy.

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors

Fulfilling our mission to help the community, our Neighbors Feeding Neighbors (NFN) program has now been serving the community for a number of years.  Each month we serve at least 50 hardy, home-cooked, take out meals. NFN serves a free lunch to all comers on the last Sunday of each month.

North Plainfield Fall Festival

In the past few years, the North Plainfield Fall Festival has been a wonderful, new community event! Holy Cross has a table at Fall Festival each year and looks forward to joining the community celebration again this fall.

The Pumpkin Patch

Don’t miss our annual Pumpkin Patch! This is a new event that we started during the pandemic. Each October our Grove Street lawn becomes a pumpkin patch! It’s a great place to buy a pumpkin, take fall photos of the family, and enjoy the day! We also have special craft vendor days during the pumpkin patch, and the library comes to visit! It’s a wonderful time of year for the parish and community.
